7 weeks old today!

Little Oliver is 7 weeks old today and I think the fussiness has reached a peak!! I was told this can happen between 6-7 weeks and I think we're there. The good news is though that we are handling the fussing much better and can usually get him calmed down fairly quickly, but man can this kid scream.

Two days ago Oliver did an amazing thing - put himself to sleep! It worked a magical *six* times in a row where he would yawn once, I would swaddle him up and lay him down, and five minutes later he was asleep! No screaming, no crying, no fussing, nothing. That night he slept for 5 hours for the first time. Yeah! I thought we had made a turn and this would continue from there on out. WRONG. :) He has been absolutely fighting naps yesterday and today, laying down so asleep and staying asleep for roughly 10 minutes before getting up again. Ah...but even with that he's still not fussing that much, just not sleeping. And just now, he cried to get up again, and it really had been a decent nap, not great, so I went to get him, put him in his swing while I prepare the bottle, and he's out again! Oh this baby stuff can be so hard to figure out sometimes. It's an easier day when we just go with his flow and let him dictate his schedule, and generally that is what happens. It's just so hard for me to not have a schedule of "what to do next." Know what I mean?? I've found though, and sometimes the hard way, that truly if he is happy, I'm happy!! So my adult schedule is thrown to the wind. Big deal - nothing compares to this little boy's smile. :)

TTFN.

Smiles!

We've been getting lots of smiles in the last few days and miraculously have had the camera ready for some of them! I don't have a picture of it, but it is so cute...sometimes he smiles so so big his cheeks overtake his eyes and he can't see!! It's so hilarious and it makes those 3 a.m. feedings SO much easier. :)

Monday

Pictures...

Just thought I'd share some pictures! There are some of Ollie with his cousin Lauren and then also with Carter...Ollie is the screaming one. :)

One month old!!

We're back online!! Anybody still out there?!?

For the two or so left reading this :) the move to Mayville went off pretty well. We had a bit of a rough start with the two babies in one car needing much attention, but things still moved pretty quickly. We got to Mayville and unpacked and then headed to Park River to spend time with the extended Hall family. We had such a good time! Even though it was so wonderful seeing everybody, we felt like wanderers without a home. We had two days in Mayville and then headed to Brainerd, MN for my family's annual trip. Again, had a wonderful time and loved it, but in the back of our minds we still feel lost without a home, simply because we haven't been in Mayville unpacked yet! So finally in the last two days we have made much progress unpacking and are getting things going, like internet and cable.

Ollie is doing so well! He is one month old today. He seems to be settling into a schedule...sort of! We have a feeding usually around 11 pm - midnight, then at 4 am, 8, 10, 2 pm, 5-6, 8-9, and then it starts over again! In between there we have play time and lots of naps. He starting smiling! Still not long, well-defined smiles, but it's so obvious he's trying.

I have to admit the first 3 weeks were pretty rough. It really takes a long time, and is still in the process, of adjusting to this new life! It's so odd to be so in love with something and so amazingly tired and in the worst emotional/physical shape of your life, and at times, very frustrated. Not frustrated with Ollie himself, but the situation we are in at that moment. Mostly it's 4 am and there has been a combination of a diaper leak requiring a change/poopy diaper/fussy feeding/spit up requiring another change/over an hour to get him to settle down. One night we went through six onsies - no joke. He either peed, pooped, or spat up on at least enough of the shirt to require a changing. Last Wednesday things just seemed to start to click. Granted I still have my rough moments and I'm sure this will continue for oh..say the next 18 years or so...but we seem to finally be hitting a groove.

Hope you are all doing well and gearing up for fall! It's crazy to be saying that. I think I spent so much of my summer concentrating on being pregnant and waiting for Ollie that now I am just sitting here going, um...where did summer go?? :)

TTFN!
